Nuclear Waste Management Organization

DEVELOPMENT OF COMMUNICATIONS PIECE FOR ABORIGINAL AUDIENCE

CHALLENGE

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) was established in 2002 to assume responsibility for the long-term management of Canada’s used nuclear fuel. The goal of this project was to design a unique communications piece to educate NWMO’s mandate, how nuclear fuel is utilized in our daily lives, and to engage Aboriginal Canadians to discuss plans for management of nuclear waste.

INSIGHT AND KEY CONSIDERATIONS

Nuclear Waste Management is an extremely technical topic of discussion.  The design and photos had to be reflective of the target audience and keep a sense and nature and clean lines to the piece.  The content was to be simplified due to its technical and complex strategies.

IMPLEMENTATION

Custom photography was required and executed at various locations. A non-standard publication was requested to stand out and be unique.

RESULTS

The circular and unique die-cut publication is full of useful information. This tool will be instrumental in educating and garner participation and feedback particularly from the Aboriginal communities on the best plan and practices of nuclear waste management.
